Avoid making these 5 common mistakes and you’ll be on your way to unleashing your content’s full potential with authentic, engaging videos that help increase your visibility online and build trust with your dream clients. Keep reading below, or watch the video here:
Small business video mistake #1:
Neglecting video content
The first mistake we see is not making any video content at all. The stats are pretty compelling!
Videos on social get shared 12 times more than text and images combined, and
84% of video consumers claim they decided to buy a product or service after watching a brand’s video.
Don’t fall into the trap of not making any videos at all.
Small business video mistake #2:
You’re not filming any behind-the-scenes (BTS) content
The second mistake we see small businesses make is not capturing any behind-the-scenes footage.
Gone are the days of needing fully professional edited videos. Sure, those type of videos still have a place – like on your homepage or a landing page.
But the best (and easiest) place to start with video is to simply capture some of the everyday things you do in your business on your smartphone. Chances are that your audience IS interested in some of the things you consider to be more “mundane”.
Without behind-the-scenes content, you run the risk of your social content being too static and lacking engagement because people want to see the real you, the real people who make the magic happen.
Small business video mistake #3:
You focus on yourself too much
The third thing to avoid is focusing your videos about you or the business.
When we first start working with a new client, our goal is to flip the narrative from what you do or how long you’ve been in business (yawn!), to how and why you serve your clients or customers.
Basically, what’s in it for them (the person watching)?
Small business video mistake #4:
Too salesy and not giving any value
When your focus is just on getting money in the door, your video content runs the risk of being too salesy.
The last thing you want to do is come across as desperate on camera.
Remember, not everyone watching your content is ready to buy and people need to trust you before they’ll do business with you, so don’t be afraid to share industry insights and valuable tips.
Small business video mistake #5:
Not leveraging videos across multiple channels
If you’ve nailed your social videos that’s awesome. Now you want to make sure you’re repurposing them.
- How can you turn one longer video into multiple shorter ones?
- Is there a version that can be used on your website to increase the eyeballs and engagement?
Putting relevant videos on key website pages or blogs can dramatically lift time on page. We’ve seen it on client websites time and time again. The page is more enticing, people stay longer (which tells Google your website has value which helps your SEO efforts) and it goes a long way to building trust and authority in the eyes of your customers and Google.
That means increased visibility online, better qualified enquiries and ultimately more revenue potential because the person enquiring already has a better feel for what your business stands for and how you can help them.
